Priory Care Home
This is (Or Was) A 41 bed-roomed Care Home known as The Priory. With some of its care staff having to live in the converted roof space which has been occupied as such since at least 1951. The Priory Care Home was registered with the authorities to accommodate and provide nursing and personal care for up to forty one older people but concentrating on those that suffered from Alzheimer’s or Dementia.
The original Priory House was a detached two storey property which provided safe accommodation in single bedrooms located on the ground and first floors. A retro fitted vertical passenger lift provided easy access to all its floors. The Dining rooms and lounges were located on the ground floor. There were also secluded gardens and a patio area which surrounded the property which residents were once able to enjoy.
The care home fees at the time of closure ranged from £419 to £700 per week. But additional charges were made for services such as chiropody, hairdressing and other therapies provided by outside agencies. The Priory Care Home closed around 2009/2010 (CQC 07/08/2009) with a building demolition application approved and the go-ahead given for a high quality, 64-bedroom purpose built care home being given the go ahead in late 2014.
There is more to this place that meets the eye because whilst we were on our way out I noticed a sign on the entrance gate (See Last Photo) stating that visitors etc are to report to the RQMS office first. Can anyone help me with more information?
